Motorhome Around Australia - The Big Run to Ceduna: Reuniting with the Jacksons The run from Home to Ceduna: It could have been quite a bit shorter but I had to go to Mildura and Mt Gambier for work. But I'm glad we did because of both spots were amazing. Days 1-17: 13 March to 29 March The day had finally come! After months of planning and logistical wrangling, we were ready to leave work behind and hit the road with Adieu , our trusty motorhome. This trip around Australia had been my dream for years. Now it was happening, and we couldn’t wait to dive into the history, landscapes, and oddball stories that make this country so fascinating. 1. The Sprint to Broken Hill This wasn’t our usual meandering style. We powered through 400-500 kilometers a day to get to Broken Hill as quickly as possible. Adieu handled the long drives beautifully bearing in mind she was towing Suzi, but we made sure to give her (and ourselves) a few interesting pit stops along the way. Day 1 : Leyburn to vi...
A nullarbor crossing is taken to be between Ceduna in the east and Norseman in the west almost 1,300km Days 18-20: March 30 to April 2 It was on. Preparations were done, and now we were in the big dance—crossing the Nullarbor! Right out of the blocks, we got lucky with dream weather: no headwinds from the west. Score! The windy weather is next week! As we drove along my mind went to 1969 when met some English gypsies who had come to Australia. They talked with animation about their crossing of the Nullarbor. Only they called it the "Narrabar" and no amount of subtly correcting them ever achieved a change in their pronunciation. 1 The Penong Windmill Museum Penong has the best collection of windmills I’ve ever seen. In a land where water and wind shaped the lives of early settlers, these towering structures were vital for harnessing underground water. The museum, started in 2016, features over 20 restored windmills, sourced from the Eyre Peninsula, the Nullarbor, and as far aw...
Motorhome Around Australia: Our 125 Day Adventure Our trek around Australia was more than 14,000 kilometre over 125 days The Dream Begins How long have I dreamed of travelling around Australia? How about "Forever"? Lynette thought (and still thinks) I’ve been brainwashed by those Australian primary school Social Studies lessons. Maybe she wasn't entirely wrong—they did leave a strong impression. I still recall tidbits like Marble Bar being the hottest town in Australia, something important happening at Daly Waters, and gold being discovered in Kalgoorlie. And then there’s the Indian Pacific that spans the land. Wait, hold up! “The Indian Pacific spans the land.” That’s not from Social Studies, you hick—that’s Slim Dusty! Convincing the Reluctant Traveller Getting Lynette to leave her grandchildren for months was a challenge. How could she be away from the little ones for so long? But logistically, we were set. Adieu was in peak condition, especially after finding an aut...
